 RICHMOND – The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) today celebrated the fifth annual Virginia Intern Day, recognizing interns and their impact on the Commonwealth.

Regional celebrations were held throughout Virginia, culminating in a statewide event in Richmond. Nearly 300 employers, interns and higher education partners attended the event. Governor Spanberger also issued a proclamation recognizing Virginia Intern Day.

During the event, Delegate Briana D. Sewell spoke about the importance of internships and helped honor Viginia’s Top 50 Interns. Attendees explored a range of work-based learning topics designed to support interns as they grow their skills, confidence and professional direction.

“Internships open doors for students, employers and entire communities,” said Scott Fleming, executive director of SCHEV. “When students apply what they’ve learned in the classroom to real-world challenges, everyone benefits. We’re proud to help Virginia build a stronger, more connected talent pipeline, ensuring Virginia is the top state for talent.”

“Internships are where potential becomes possibility,” said Alisha Bazemore, assistant director of innovative work-based learning initiatives at SCHEV. “Seeing students grow, contribute and discover their paths is why this work matters and why Virginia is committed to expanding these opportunities statewide.”
