Virginia Tech shrinks search committee, citing competition for candidates

Post Date:07/24/2026 10:57 AM
JMiller and NDyeThe committee tasked with finding Virginia Tech's next president will soon shrink in an effort to be more 'nimble' as it competes with other universities for top candidates.

The search committee currently includes the full Virginia Tech Board of Visitors as well as representatives of faculty, staff, students and alumni. However, committee Chair Nancy Dye said Tuesday that a smaller representative subcommittee will take over interviewing candidates after Clemson University hired one of Virginia Tech's prospective candidates as its next president.

'Things move very quickly in this world,' Dye said during the committee's meeting. 'We must be nimble as a committee, as candidates we identify may very well be involved in other searches or are being pursued by other universities,'" reports Cardinal News.
