The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) today announced the 2025-26 members of its Student Advisory Committee (SAC).

As required by the Code of Virginia, the committee includes student representatives from Virginia’s public and private institutions who advise SCHEV leadership on systemwide issues of concern for college students. The group meets several times during the year and will present its topics of concern to Council during its March 2026 meeting.

“A core part of SCHEV’s mission is ensuring student success,” said Scott Fleming, SCHEV executive director. “To make that happen, we need the voice of students to help guide our decisions as we grapple with complex issues in higher education.”

"It is an honor to help lead this committee that represents Virginia’s higher education students, and I look forward to developing policy recommendations, presenting our work to Council and engaging with them on implementation prospects and strategies," said Zayd Hamid, George Mason University graduate student and SAC co-chair.

“As co-chairs, our priority this year is to provide a foundation of guidance and development for the current and incoming members of SAC. They are already at work and will be soliciting input from other students to help inform our policy proposals,” said Tobi Ojo, a senior at Virginia Commonwealth University and SAC co-chair.

This year’s SAC members have identified student finances, belonging and workforce readiness as priority issues for current Virginia college students.
