"EYES ON VIRGINIA — Glenn Youngkin early on cemented himself as an education governor, building his Virginia campaign around parents rights and reforming the state’s schools and colleges.
Nearly four years later, Youngkin has appointed dozens of GOP allies to public university boards who have eliminated diversity programs on campuses, ousted some campus leaders and implemented other conservative education priorities. Youngkin has touted his efforts to dismantle DEI programs, address campus free speech concerns and hold quarterly meetings with college presidents to discuss graduation rates, college affordability and alignment with the workforce, among other policies.
As the term-limited governor heads toward his exit, how Virginia’s gubernatorial race shakes out next month could determine the longevity of those efforts — especially the board appointments that were critical to implementing his higher education agenda,"
