FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) released a new reference guide today that offers considerations for institutions as they plan their approaches to Artificial Intelligence integration.
The guide, authored by Dr. Amarda Shehu and Dr. Padhu Seshaiyer of George Mason University, highlights key insights from the AI in Education Summit for Virginia, held May 20–21, 2025, at GMU and sponsored in part by SCHEV.
The summit brought together educators, administrators, policymakers, innovators and industry leaders to discuss opportunities and challenges in integrating artificial intelligence into education.
The guide summarizes summit discussions and offers a roadmap for implementing recommendations. The guide reflects the dialogue of participants and does not represent SCHEV’s positions or opinions.
“Virginia’s institutions are leading the way, understanding how AI can be used responsibly to support student success, workforce readiness and innovation,” said Scott Fleming, SCHEV executive director. “We are fortunate to have such talented experts in this space at our public institutions and pleased to support efforts that foster collaboration and provide practical insights to guide this important work.”
The guide supports the Governor’s Executive Order 30 (2024) and the Guidelines for AI Integration throughout Education in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
