RICHMOND –The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) today recognized the fourth annual Virginia Intern Day with numerous celebrations across the Commonwealth.
Events included regional gatherings and receptions along with a state-wide celebration in Richmond, where approximately 200 employers and interns attended an event which included an employer panel and brief remarks from several student-interns about their internship experiences. In addition, Governor Youngkin issued a proclamation recognizing Virginia Intern Day.
“Virginia’s employers play a critical role in bridging the gap between education and workforce,” said Scott Fleming, executive director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. “Through internships and other work-based learning opportunities, they help students gain the relevant skills and experience that lead to successful careers. We’re thrilled to have so many employers partnering to make these opportunities possible.”
Alisha Bazemore, assistant director of innovative work-based learning initiatives at SCHEV added, “Today is a great day to reflect on the work V-TOP and our partners are doing to transform Virginia’s internship effort into a region-driven statewide strategic initiative.”
V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in partnership with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. It is funded by the Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program, which was created by the General Assembly.
