RICHMOND –The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) today recognized the third annual Virginia Intern Day with numerous celebrations across the Commonwealth.
Events included regional gatherings and receptions along with a state-wide celebration in Richmond, where more than 150 employers and interns attended a photo op and reception. In addition, Governor Youngkin issued a proclamation recognizing Virginia Intern Day.
“It’s important to celebrate students, employers, colleges and universities for their participation in work-based learning,” said Scott Fleming, director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. “As a former intern myself, I know firsthand that high-quality internships will strengthen Virginia’s workforce and, ultimately, our economy by preparing students with the skills they need to succeed.”
Alisha Bazemore, assistant director of innovative work-based learning initiatives at SCHEV added, “Today is a great day to reflect on the work V-TOP and our partners are doing to transform Virginia’s internship effort into a region-driven statewide strategic initiative.”
V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in partnership with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. It is funded by the Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program, which was created by the General Assembly.
