RICHMOND -- The Virginia Talent + Opportunity Partnership (V-TOP) awarded $25,000 each to Norfolk State University (NSU) and Shenandoah University to fund a campus-wide task force at each institution to develop a vision, set priorities and design strategies for internship and work-based learning initiatives.
“Internship programs typically evolve organically over time without clear strategy. Vision Grants help institutions take a step back so they can create a comprehensive campus-wide approach for work-based learning,” said Alisha Bazemore, assistant director of innovative work-based learning initiatives at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia. “Ultimately, these grants will help create an enhanced student learning experience and increase the number of high-quality internships.”
NSU and Shenandoah University join James Madison University, Marymount University, Old Dominion University, Patrick and Henry Community College, Radford University, Tidewater Community College, University of Virginia, the University of Virginia at Wise and Virginia Commonwealth University as recipients of the Vision Grants.
V-TOP is administered by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia in partnership with the Virginia Chamber of Commerce Foundation and the Virginia Business Higher Education Council. It is funded by the General Assembly's Commonwealth Innovative Internship Fund and Program.
