On September 7, 1972, the Council granted provisional approval to grant associate degrees for a two-year period. Early in 1973, the college became a part of the Virginia Community College System. This private four-year college was chartered February 7, 1968, enrolled students in September 1969, and closed in 1972. In 1968 its address was 2321 Military Rd., Arlington; in 1969, 1403 Dolley Madison Blvd., McLean. In 1971 the institution also maintained an address at 2534 K St., N.W., Washington, DC 20037. In Summer 1971, the former president of the college founded Potomac Community College (see below).

The institution closed as a result of an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education. This Lutheran college for women was established in 1896 and destroyed by fire in 1921. The college then used space at Roanoke College and Salem High School to complete the 1921-1922 academic year, after which it closed. Roanoke College acquired the student records and hosted annual alumnae reunions through June 1990.

This two-year Roman Catholic men's college was founded in 1932 at Holy Trinity, Ala., and functioned as the lower divison of a four-year liberal arts institution whose upper division is located at Silver Spring, Maryland. As a seminary of the Missionary Servants of the Most Holy Trinity, it moved to Monroe, Virginia, in September 1960. It was approved by the State Board of Education in May 1967 to offer the Associate of Arts degree, and closed on June 1, 1970.

This two-year proprietary institution was authorized to enroll students Nov. 6, 1985. It received provisional approval to confer degrees May 7, 1986, and full approval to offer the AAS in Secretarial Science degree and certificates in Business August 6, 1986. The school, which was accredited by AICS, closed on October 20, 1988. The parent corporation operates a branch in Washington, DC.

LIFE Bible College East began in 1923 with the founding of the first LIFE Bible College in Los Angeles. In 1988 the college moved to Christiansburg, Virginia; the name was changed to LIFE Bible College East. On April 30, 2004, LIFE Bible College East relocated to a larger campus in San Dimas, California.

Some students transferred to Friendship College, Rock Hill, SC 29730, but that institution was closed by Federal postal authorities in 1981 and the location of its records is not known. The seminary portion of the institution continued operating as Virginia Seminary and College and maintains the records that are extant. Another institution of the same name began in Roanoke in 1983.

This private business school incorporated on August 12, 1968, and began operations at 124 West Piccadilly, Winchester. Prior to September 1969, it moved to Falls Church, and in 1972/73 it was operating in Reston. It closed prior to March, 1981.
