SCHEV Announces Agenda for September 9 Meeting

RICHMONDThe State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 9, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The meeting will take place in SCHEV’s main conference room on the ninth floor of the James Monroe Building at 101 North 14th Street in Richmond, Virginia.

Following remarks from W. Taylor Reveley III, Interim President of the College of William and Mary, the Council will discuss the 2008-10 systemwide operating budget amendment items and the higher education system capital outlay budget. Specific topics include base adequacy, faculty salaries, financial aid, private institutions and Virginia’s nursing shortage, and maintenance reserve funds.

The Council will take action on new public participation guidelines, as well as budget amendments related to the Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG) and the College Scholarship Assistance Program (CSAP). Council members will also act on George Mason University’s request to implement a doctoral program in Systems Engineering and Operations Research, as well as academic program requests from five other institutions.

Additionally, a Council discussion about the Eastern Virginia Medical School study will take place on Monday, September 8, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. in SCHEV’s main conference room.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
