Budget Recommendations for Higher Education Top Priority at SCHEV's October Meeting

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, October 29 from 9:00 am - 12:30 pm in SCHEV's main conference room on the ninth floor of the James Monroe Building at 101 North 14th Street in Richmond, Virginia. Following remarks from Thomas Nelson Community College President, John Dever, Council members will consider the systemwide operating and capital outlay budgets for the next biennial cycle. SCHEV's recommendations seek to maintain the reinvestment in higher education the Governor and General Assembly began three years ago.

Additionally, the Council will take action on agenda items considered during the Academic Affairs Committee meeting, which will be held on Monday, October 28 at 2:00 pm in SCHEV's conference room on the tenth floor. The popularity of programs in which high school students take college courses has led to an updating of SCHEV's Dual Enrollment Policy. The resulting update under consideration by Council members is a collaborative effort with the colleges and universities as well as the Virginia Department of Education.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth's coordinating body for Virginia's system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the Council meeting are available on the SCHEV website at www.schev.edu/council/AgendaBookIndex.asp.
