RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, October 27 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Salons 1 and 2 on the second floor of Virginia Commonwealth University’s Student Commons in Richmond.
Following remarks by VCU President Michael Rao, the Council will take action on both the 2010-12 systemwide operating and capital outlay budgets. Staff will present estimates of the additional funding required in order for Virginia teaching and research faculty salaries to reach the 60th percentile of peers, biennium recommendations for the Higher Education Equipment Trust Fund, and funding options for student financial aid. Council members will also act on recommendations from the Restructuring Subcommittee.
As part of its consent agenda, the Council will take action on applications from five private postsecondary institutions seeking certification to operate in Virginia. Council members will also act on requests from George Mason University to offer a Bachelor of Applied Science and Radford University to offer a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
