SCHEV and Private College Presidents Hold Annual Joint Meeting
RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its annual joint meeting with the Private College Advisory Board (PCAB) on Tuesday, May 21 from 3:00 – 5:00 pm in the Pickle Program Lounge of the Colket Center at Roanoke College in Salem, Virginia. Council members and presidents of Virginia’s private not-for-profit colleges and universities will discuss Tuition Assistance Grants (TAG), higher education legislation, economic opportunity metrics, and Governor McDonnell’s Top Jobs for the 21st Century (TJ21) legislation.
The Council will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 22, from 9:00 am – 12:15 pm in the Colket Center’s Pickle Program Lounge. Following remarks from Roanoke College President Michael Creed Maxey, the Council will discuss its work with the Higher Education Advisory Committee and receive an update on a new data system that includes information outcomes at different levels of education and employment.
Council members also will review agenda items considered by the Academic Affairs Committee, which will meet Monday, May 21, at 2:00 pm in the Kime Conference Room on the second floor of Roanoke College’s Colket Center. Among those items, committee members will hear a report on the closure of ACT College, as well as take action on the annual productivity/viability review of academic programs. Additionally, the Academic Affairs Committee will hear requests from James Madison University to offer a new Master of Arts degree in Communication and Advocacy and Norfolk State University to offer a Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
