SCHEV Announces Agenda for May 12 Meeting

RICHMONDThe State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold an executive committee meeting at 8:30 a.m. and a regular business meeting at 9:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 12, 2009. The meetings will take place in the Edwin Meese III Conference Room (Room D23) in Mason Hall at George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia.

Following a briefing on the Two-Year College Transfer Grant program, Council members will take action on the certification of institutions under Restructuring, and the proposed educational performance measures for institutions seeking Level II authority. Five institutions have formally submitted applications for Level II authority, and the VCCS has expressed intent to submit an application in the next few months. Council members will also act on the program viability process, the revised private and out-of-state postsecondary education guidelines, and several other programs.

George Mason University President Alan Merten will address Council regarding the University’s mission. A revised mission statement from Mason will also be considered by Council.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the SCHEV meeting are available at http://www.schev.edu.
