SCHEV Announces Agenda for May 13 Meeting

RICHMONDThe State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Ballator Gallery on the second floor of the Moody Building at Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia.

Council members will take action on a number of items, including proposals from George Mason University and Virginia Commonwealth University to initiate doctoral programs in Physics and Health Psychology, respectively. These two institutions and Virginia State University are also requesting Council action on a total of seven additional proposals for new bachelor’s and master’s degree programs to be effective Fall 2008.

The Council will also take action on the program viability review process, the certification of institutions under the Restructuring Act, the 2008-09 Commonwealth Graduate Engineering (CGEP) operating plan, and the Institutional Performance Standards (IPS) measures. Hollins President Nancy Oliver Gray will address the Council members, who will also hear a report from the ad hoc Committee on Affordability.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the SCHEV meeting are available at www.schev.edu.
