SCHEV Announces Agenda for July 13-14 Meetings

RICHMOND— The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will meet jointly with the Private College Advisory Board (PCAB) on Monday, July 13. This meeting will be held from 2:30 to 5:00 p.m. in Tyler Haynes Commons Room 305 at the University of Richmond.

The meeting will include a presentation on enrollment trends and demand projections at public and private institutions, as well as an update on the HJ91 study committee, which was established by the General Assembly in 2008 to study ways in which in the Commonwealth may work more closely with the Virginia’s private, nonprofit colleges to meet Virginia’s higher education needs.  The group will also hear from Michael Cline of the Virginia Department of Emergency Management regarding coordination of resources between colleges and their localities.

SCHEV will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, July 14 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Tyler Haynes Commons Room 305 at the University of Richmond. Following remarks from President Edward Ayers, the Council will hear from Michael Maul, Associate Director in the Department of Planning and Budget’s Education, Training & Public Safety division.

Council members will take action on a number of items, including enrollment targets, the full cost report, the Virginia Guaranteed Assistance Program (VGAP), and amended domicile guidelines. Additionally, Council will take action on degree program requests from two public four-year institutions (Longwood University and Old Dominion University) and four community colleges (Blue Ridge, Eastern Shore, Germanna, and John Tyler). The Council will also hold elections.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
