SCHEV Announces Agenda for July 8 Meeting

RICHMONDThe State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The meeting will take place in the Turman Room of Preston Library at Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Virginia.

The Council will take action on the program viability review process and the full cost report, as well as a proposal from Old Dominion University to initiate a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree effective spring 2009. Superintendent J.H. Binford Peay III will address the Council members, who will also hear an update on Eastern Virginia Medical School from President Harry Lester. Additional meeting topics include an update on the Higher Education Strategic Plan, a discussion on budget and legislative issues for 2010-12, and a report from the Council’s Nominating Committee.

A Council policy discussion session will take place on Monday, July 7, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the Preston Library’s Turman Room at Virginia Military Institute. Panelists will address the issues of student and institutional success, including retention, completion, and graduation rates.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
