Council To Discuss 2013 Legislative Session,
Policies for Military-Related Students at January Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regular business meeting on Tuesday, January 15 from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm in SCHEV’s main conference room on the 9th floor of the James Monroe Building at 101 North 14th Street in Richmond, Virginia. Following remarks from Dr. Patricia I. Wright, Superintendent of Public Instruction, the Council will discuss the 2013 General Assembly session.
The Council will also take action on agenda items considered during the Academic Affairs Committee meeting, which will be held on January 14 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in SCHEV’s main conference room. Members will consider George Mason University’s proposal to initiate a Master of Science degree program in Nutrition, as well as a request from Peak Institute, a private vocational institution seeking certification to operate in Virginia. Additionally, the Academic Affairs Committee will discuss proposed guidelines on course registration policies for military-related students at public higher education institutions in anticipation of full Council action in March.
Members of the TJ 21 Implementation Task Force will meet on January 14 from 3:30 – 5:00 pm in the VCCS Godwin-Hamel Board Room on the 15th floor of the Monroe Building to discuss enrollment projections for 2014-2020 and hear an update from the Higher Education Advisory Committee.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues.
