SCHEV Announces Agenda for January 6 Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, January 6, 2009 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The meeting will take place in SCHEV’s main conference room on the ninth floor of the James Monroe Building at 101 North 14th Street in Richmond, Virginia.
Following remarks from University of Virginia President John Casteen, the Council members will be updated on the Governor’s introduced budget, pre-filed legislation, domicile guidelines, and the Private and Out-of-State Postsecondary Education (POPE) section’s annual report. Council will then take action on institutional performance standards targets and recommendations from the Ad Hoc Affordability Committee.
Council members will also take action on a total of six degree program proposals from five public four-year institutions, as well as a request for provisional certification from South University, a private for-profit institution accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Additionally, Council will take action on a request from George Mason University to grant a third one-year extension of preliminary approval for the University’s Loudon site.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the SCHEV meeting are available at www.schev.edu.
