Overview of the College Access Challenge Grant Program
In August 2008, the U.S. Department of Education awarded to Virginia the College Access Challenge Grant Program (CACGP) grant. The CACGP is a two-year formula grant program designed to foster partnerships among Federal, State, and local government entities and philanthropic organizations to significantly increase the number of students who enter and remain in postsecondary education. A priority of the grant is to provide services and activities to students and families who live below the poverty line.
Virginia’s campaign, “Information is Key to Access and Success,” is designed to demystify post-high school educational endeavors by providing necessary and needed information to students (with an emphasis on students from low-income families) and their families, “where they are.” Workshops will provide information on the importance of education beyond high school graduation, career planning and choices, and clarifying how to apply for, finance, and enroll and succeed in post-high school educational endeavors.
