We are offering a series of informational and hands-on events and providing resources to help Virginia students and families through the process to GO to college.

The 1-2-3 Go! initiative is co-sponsored by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia and the Educational Credit Management Corporation.

Prepare - College Nights in Virginia events


Step 1- Prepare  PREPARE

ECMC College Nights in Virginia

February – April 2018
ECMC (Educational Credit Management Corp.) has sponsored College Nights in Virginia every year since 2007. Participating locations across the Commonwealth provide opportunities for students and families to learn and receive information about planning and paying for college. Attending students also have a chance to win one of three $500 scholarships. Events are open to the public. Click here to see College Nights locations. 

Step 2 - Apply  APPLY

Virginia College Application Week

November 12-16, 2018
College Application Week is part of a national initiative designed to increase the number of first- generation and low-income students pursuing a college degree or other higher education credential. Participating students are encouraged to submit at least one college application during the Week. In Virginia, the Secretary of Education’s office, State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), ECMC, and the Council of Independent Colleges in Virginia (CICV) join with counselors and volunteers, at select high schools across the state, to coordinate a week that provides their students hands-on college application assistance and resources, including application fee waivers and informational materials. Super FAFSA Project Virginia

October 2018 - February 2019
Super FAFSA Project Virginia is an annual statewide initiative designed to increase completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) throughout the Commonwealth. ECMC and SCHEV partner with select Virginia high schools to host events at which high school seniors and their families receive hands-on assistance completing the FAFSA. Additionally, families and counselors receive valuable information through webinars and downloadable materials. Visit the Super FAFSA Project page for more information.

Decision Days in Virginia

On or around May 1

Decision Day, sometimes referred to as Signing Day, celebrates the success of high school seniors in pursuing postsecondary education or training. Celebrations take place on or around May 1 to coincide with the deadline that most institutions use for students to submit enrollment decisions. We encourage schools and communities to be creative when recognizing students and demonstrating support for the decisions that they have made for their futures.
