RICHMOND —The Commonwealth will celebrate the recipients of the 2016 Virginia Outstanding Faculty Awards on Feb. 16. These awards, bestowed annually since 1987 by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and sponsored in full since 2005 by the Dominion Foundation, recognize excellence in postsecondary teaching, research, knowledge integration and public service at the state’s public and private colleges and universities.
The event will begin with a reception at 12:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Grand Ballroom of the Jefferson Hotel in Richmond. The ceremony will open with a welcome from Peter Blake, director of SCHEV, at 12:45 p.m., followed by lunch. After the meal, Hunter Applewhite, president of the Dominion Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Dominion Resources, parent company of Dominion Virginia Power, will offer opening remarks. Secretary of Education Anne Holton will introduce Governor Terry McAuliffe, who will give personal congratulations to the awardees. SCHEV chair Gil Minor and SCHEV member Pamela Moran will introduce and present an award to each of the 13 recipients, whose family and friends will be in attendance. The event will conclude at approximately 2:30 p.m.
