Carlyle Ramsey

Dr. Carlyle Ramsey served as President of Danville Community College (DCC) for 21 years until his retirement in July of 2013. His previous employment included positions as Assistant Vice Chancellor for Instructional Programs and Student Services at the Virginia Community College System and Dean of Instruction and Student Development at D.C.C.

Dr. Ramsey joins SCHEV after serving on numerous higher education boards and commissions including: the Governor’s Commission on Higher Education Reform, Innovation and Investment; the Rural Community College Alliance; the National Coalition on Advanced Technology Centers; and the Association of Virginia Colleges and Universities. Dr. Ramsey has applied his experience in higher education to the economic development process with his appointments to the Governor’s Economic Development Council, the Danville Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, and the Industrial Development Authority of Halifax County.

Dr. Ramsey received his B.A. degree in History from the University of Florida, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in History from Florida State University. He holds an Educational Management Certificate from Harvard University and participated in the United Kingdom’s Oxford Roundtable.

His most recent Publication is “Integrating Reaccreditation with Other Student Success Initiatives Creates Synergy” What We Know: Reflections from the Developmental Education Initiative: Presidents (MDC Chapel Hill, 2012).

Dr. Ramsey lives in Halifax County with his wife Rosemary.
