Council To Take Action on Budget Recommendations and
Academic Program Approval Duties at September 25 Meeting
RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold its regular business meeting at 9:00 am on Tuesday, September 25 in Room 411 of Lee Hall at the University of Mary Washington (UMW) in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Following remarks from UMW President Rick Hurley, the Council will hear a presentation from the Virtual Library of Virginia, as well as reports from the Economic Opportunity Metrics Task Force and Budget Recommendations Task Force, both of which are meeting on September 24. Council members will also get an update on the upcoming Boards of Visitors orientation.
Additionally, the Council will take action on agenda items considered during the Academic Affairs Committee meeting, which will be held on Monday, September 24 in Room 412 of UMW’s Lee Hall at 2:00 pm. In addition to discussing Council’s academic program and organizational change approval duties, members will take action on Virginia Commonwealth University’s proposal for a Ph.D. in Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering. Following the committee meeting, Council members will hold a joint meeting with the Council of Presidents in Lee Hall, Room 411, where they will discuss long-term issues and priorities, including the FY14 budget process and recommendations.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues.
