RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia will be holding hearings on the need and desirability of creating a new public four-year college in south central Virginia. These hearings will take place on October 26, 27, and 28, 2004.

On Tuesday, October 26 from 7:00-9:00 pm, there will be a town hall meeting at the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research in Danville.

On Wednesday, October 27, from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon, there will be a town hall meeting on the campus of Patrick Henry Community College in Martinsville.

On Thursday, October 28, from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon, the final town hall meeting will be held in Richmond at the James Monroe Building.

All interested parties are invited to come and give brief testimony. Persons planning to speak are asked to bring written comments and/or supporting material to be included in the record of the meeting. SCHEV Executive Director Daniel LaVista will moderate each meeting, and members of the State Council and agency staff will be on hand to receive the testimony.

SCHEV has also prepared a website to receive public comment. Anyone unable to attend any of these town hall meetings is encouraged to review the proposals that have been submitted to SCHEV and respond online. The public comment site can be found at
