Thomas Daley Named SCHEV’s Deputy Director

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Wednesday, October 15, from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., in the 9th floor main conference room of the SCHEV offices in Richmond.

Prior to the main business meeting, SCHEV’s committees will meet that morning. The Resources Committee meets from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m., followed by the Outreach Committee from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Both committees will meet in the 9th floor main conference room. The Academic Affairs Committee will meet from 8:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in the 1st floor conference room “B.”

SCHEV’s recommendations for higher education funding for the 2004-06 biennial budget will be the focus of the agenda. SCHEV will consider recommendations for student financial assistance, faculty salaries, base budget adequacy, and tuition policy, as well as funding policies for capital outlay, maintenance and renovation of facilities, new equipment purchases, and operation of new facilities. In addition, council members will discuss new initiatives aimed at meeting two of SCHEV’s strategic plan goals in accommodating enrollment growth and increasing Virginia’s national standing in sponsored research at institutions of higher education.

Non-budgetary items on the agenda include action on revised policies for off-campus site changes, discussion of SCHEV’s ongoing study of the nursing shortage in Virginia, and discussion of a proposed educational outreach and awareness role for SCHEV.
