SCHEV Considers Student Success

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will be presented with the latest information on student success at the Commonwealth’s colleges and universities. These findings will be presented at Council’s regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 20, from 9:00 am – 12:30 pm at Ferrum College in Dyer Hall. The report will detail Virginia’s performance in terms of graduation rates nationally and offer additional ways to measure and improve outcomes for students who continue their education after high school.

Council will also be updated on the work of the Private and Out-of-State Post-secondary Education (POPE) unit at its Tuesday meeting. This SCHEV section protects the educational investments of almost 58,000 students in Virginia through the certification of for-profit and out-of-state institutions.

Council’s regular business meeting will be preceded on Monday, May 19, with its annual joint meeting with the Private College Advisory Board (PCAB). The PCAB meeting will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 pm at Ferrum College’s Franklin Hall. Council members and presidents of Virginia’s private not-for-profit colleges and universities will discuss the creation and implementation of a statewide strategic plan, the Tuition Assistance Grant (TAG), and other matters important to private colleges and universities.

The Academic Advisory Committee and TJ21 Implementation Committee will also meet on Monday, May 19, at 1:30 pm in Stanley Library. Reports from those committees will be heard in full Council on Tuesday, and action taken where appropriate.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the SCHEV meeting are available at
