SCHEV Announces Agenda for March 11 Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, March 11, 2008 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Stallard Board Room (Lancaster Hall, Room 102) at Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia. Visitors may park in the public lot between St. George and Buffalo streets.
Council members will take action on several items, including a proposal by Old Dominion University to implement a Doctor of Engineering program and a request by Virginia State University to initiate a Ph.D. program in Health Psychology. The University of Virginia and Danville Community College are also requesting Council action on new degree programs, and three private, for-profit, vocational schools are seeking certification to operate postsecondary institutions in Virginia.
In addition, Longwood President Patricia Cormier will address the Council members, who will also receive updates on restructuring, the Outstanding Faculty Awards program, and the 2008 legislative session and budget.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
