SCHEV Sponsors Ft. Lee Company
—Volunteer effort provides troops with care packages—
RICHMOND — Employees at the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) recently provided care packages to support the men and women of the 16th Quartermaster Company, at Ft. Lee, Virginia. As the sponsor for the Ft. Lee unit, which is now deployed to Iraq, SCHEV personnel donated items most requested by soldiers. The more popular items included candy, magazines, toothpaste, and socks. Ms. Kimberly Evans, Relocation/Mobilization & Deployment Program Manager for Army Community Service (ACS) at Ft. Lee, commented, "We have had many reserve units to deploy through Fort Lee, but the 16th, is one of our own units. Our children go to school with their children and we work with them and their families." We certainly appreciate the kind gesture and support from the SCHEV staff." SCHEV plans to maintain a yellow ribbon at its headquarters until the return of the 16th.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues. Agenda materials for the SCHEV meeting are available at www.schev.edu.
