Making College Accessible in Southwest Virginia
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) and the Office of Federal Student Aid of the U. S. Department of Education are co-hosting a College Access and Financial Aid Roundtable on Thursday, August 15 at the Hotel Roanoke and Conference Center.
The event will focus on greater access to college and financial aid awareness for all Virginians. This free event is directed to grassroots, faith-based, and community-based non-profit organizations supporting the development of youth and/or adults in the greater southwest Virginia region. The purpose of the event is to provide an opportunity for networking and training about federal, state, and local resources designed to create pathways to increase postsecondary enrollment and FAFSA completion in the Commonwealth. The roundtable will also demonstrate the best use of valuable resources in the college access process such as the Virginia Wizard student portal.
The event is free, but registration is required at http://collegeaccessroundtable-es2.eventbrite.com/?rank=1
Members of the media in the Roanoke area also encouraged to cover the conference and spread the word about college access.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on higher education issues.
