SCHEV Announces Agenda for September 11 Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 from noon to 2:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in SCHEV’s ninth-floor main conference room in the James Monroe Building (101 North 14 th Street) in Richmond, Virginia.
During the regular business meeting, Council members will hear remarks from Governor Timothy Kaine and Longwood University President Patricia Cormier . As part of its agenda, the Council will take action on enrollment projections and peer groups for the Virginia Community College System. Additional action items include the Base Adequacy Methodologies and Processes report, the dental study for Wise County, and Academic Affairs budget recommendations for 2008-10. Council members will also discuss the 2008-10 systemwide operating and capital outlay budgets.
SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will hold a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in SCHEV’s main conference room on the ninth floor of the Monroe Building . The Committee will take action on diploma mills and private and out-of-state institutions seeking certification to operate in Virginia. The Committee will also hear proposals for two new degree programs at Virginia Tech.
The Resources Committee will hold a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room C on the first floor of the Monroe Building, where members will hear a liaison report and discuss upcoming issues.
The Committee of the Whole will meet at 10:15 a.m. in SCHEV’s main conference room on the ninth floor to be briefed on teacher education.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
