SCHEV Announces Agenda for September 12 Meeting

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, September 12, 2006 from 12:00 to 1:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the Council’s ninth floor Main Conference Room of the James Monroe Building in Richmond, Virginia.

SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will hold a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the ninth floor Main Conference Room . The Resources Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room B on the first floor of the James Monroe Building. The Outreach Committee will meet at 11:00 a.m. in the ninth floor Main Conference Room.

The Academic Affairs Committee will take action on seven proposals for new academic degree programs: six at public four-year institutions and one at a public two-year institution. The committee will also take action on Academic Affairs budget recommendations for 2007-08, as well as discuss degree escalation at public institutions and the assessment of student learning.

The Resources Committee will take action on the Full Cost Report, as well as the 2006-08 systemic programs in SCHEV’s budget. In addition, the committee will discuss the 2006-08 systemwide operating and capital outlay budget items, including base adequacy, faculty salaries, and undergraduate student financial aid.

The Outreach Committee will discuss progress towards the 2007 Outstanding Faculty Awards and several academic events being planned for the continued commemoration of SCHEV’s 50 th anniversary.

During the regular business meeting, the Council will hear remarks from Penelope W. Kyle, President of Radford University.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
