SCHEV Council Takes Action on
Institutional Performance Standards in Special Meeting
RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) held a special meeting today to take action on the Institutional Performance Standards, the mechanism created to measure the public higher education institutions’ response to the goals outlined in the Restructuring Act.
In a unanimous vote, the Council endorsed 20 measures for the 4-year public research institutions, and 18 measures for the 2-year public and 4-year public non-research institutions. All of the approved measures align closely with the nine educational-related goals embedded within the Restructuring Act. The Standards now progress to the governor and General Assembly for their consideration.
“Today’s Council vote advances a key component of the Restructuring Act, namely, the determination of performance standards to be used in measuring how institutions are responding to the Commonwealth’s goals for higher education,” said SCHEV Executive Director Daniel J. LaVista.
The Council approved Institutional Performance Standards document is available at www.schev.edu.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
