SCHEV Announces Agenda for October 25 Meeting
—Council Will Take Action on 2006-2008 Systemwide Budget Priorities —
RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, October 25, 2005 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Council’s Ninth Floor Main Conference Room of the James Monroe Building in Richmond, Virginia.
SCHEV committees will convene prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in the Ninth Floor Main Conference Room. The Resources Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m. in Conference Room C on the First Floor of the James Monroe Building. The Outreach Committee will meet at 11:30 a.m. in the Ninth Floor Main Conference Room.
The Academic Affairs Committee will take action on three proposals for new academic degree programs: two at a public two-year institution, and one at a public four-year institution. The committee will also receive an update on the No Child Left Behind institutional grants, and discuss the Council’s policies and procedures for public institutions’ organizational changes.
The Resources Committee will take action on the 2006-2008 systemwide operating budget and capital outlay recommendations, including base adequacy, faculty salaries, financial aid, and nursing education proposals.
During its regular business meeting, in addition to taking final action on the budget and capital outlay recommendations, the Council will hear a presentation from Tom McKeon, executive director of the Roanoke Higher Education Center, who will summarize the Center’s activities throughout the past five years.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
