SCHEV Announces Agenda for May 8 Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 from 1:00 to 2:30 p.m. The meeting will take place in the second floor board room of the L. Douglas Wilder Library at Virginia Union University, located at 1500 N. Lombardy Street in Richmond, Virginia.
During the regular business meeting, the Council will hear remarks from Virginia Union President Belinda Anderson. Among other agenda items, Council members will take action on the recommended statewide strategic plan for higher education, as well as the certification of institutions under the Restructuring Act.
SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will hold a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the board room the second floor of the L. Douglas Wilder Library. The Committee will take action on a total of five proposals for new degree programs at three public four-year institutions.
The Resources Committee will hold a meeting at 9:30 a.m. in the large conference room on the second floor of the L. Douglas Wilder Library. The Committee will consider the 2007-08 Commonwealth Graduate Engineering Program (CGEP) operating plan. It will also take action on Regent University’s request to participate in the College Scholarship Assistance Plan (CSAP), as well as the proposed regulations for the Virginia Vocational Incentive Scholarship Program for Shipyard Workers.
The Committee of the Whole will meet at 10:30 a.m. in the second floor board room of the L. Douglas Wilder Library. The Committee will receive briefings on the Restructuring process, engineering, and capital outlay cost overruns.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
