Thomas Daley Named SCHEV’s Deputy Director
RICHMOND —Daniel LaVista, Executive Director of the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) today announced that Thomas Daley joined SCHEV staff as Deputy Director on February 18.
“Tom’s vast experience within the higher education system, from the community college system to the four-year institutions, makes him an ideal fit within our agency.”Mr. Daley is responsible for leading and coordinating management activities, providing oversight for agency budgeting and administrative services, and monitoring the wide array of schedules for agency work plans. He also assumes leadership of the agency in the Executive Director’s absence.Prior to arriving at SCHEV, Mr. Daley served as Financial and Facilities Program Planning Manager for the Virginia Community College System (VCCS). Prior to his service at VCCS, he held the position of Assistant Vice President for Planning and Evaluation at the College of William and Mary. He also served as Finance Coordinator for SCHEV from 1986-1988.Among Mr. Daley’s numerous professional accomplishments is the preparation of a comprehensive long-term comparison of statewide higher education funding at Virginia’s public institutions and their national peers, the results of which were presented to the Governor’s Blue Ribbon Commission on Higher Education.Mr. Daley holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in International Relations from the University of Virginia and a Master of Business Administration from Virginia Tech.SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
