SCHEV Announces Agenda for July 11 Meeting
Council to meet at the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston, Virginia
RICHMOND —The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, July 11, 2006 from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Hope Classroom on the 2nd floor of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center in South Boston, Virginia.
SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will hold a meeting at 9:45 a.m. in the Hope Classroom. The Resources Committee will meet at 9:45 a.m. in the Smith Classroom on the 2nd floor of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center. The Outreach Committee will meet at 11:15 a.m. in the Smith Classroom.
The Academic Affairs Committee will take action on two proposals for new academic degree programs: one at a public four-year institution and one at a public two-year institution. Additionally, the committee will hear a presentation on core competencies and receive an update on committee priorities.
The Resources Committee will take action on the Full Cost Report, and receive an update on the 2006 legislative session. In addition, the committee will discuss a proposal from the Foundation for the Humanities, as well as discuss several budget and legislation initiatives for the 2007 legislation session.
The Outreach Committee will discuss progress towards the 2007 Outstanding Faculty Awards and several academic events being planned for the continued commemoration of SCHEV’s 50th anniversary.
During the regular business meeting, the Council will hear remarks from Ted Bennett, executive director of the Southern Virginia Higher Education Center, and hear a presentation from individuals from the Virtual Library of Virginia.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
