SCHEV Announces Agenda for January 9 Meeting
RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, January 9, 2006 from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. The meeting will take place in the Grand Ballroom Salon C&D of the Richmond Marriott at 500 East Broad Street in Richmond, Virginia.
SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business meeting. The Academic Affairs Committee will hold a meeting at 8:00 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom Salon A&B on the first floor of the Richmond Marriott. The committee will take action on eight proposals for new academic degree programs at six public four-year institutions and one public two-year institution. The committee will also take action on assessment guidelines, as well as on George Mason University’s request for an extension of the Council’s preliminary approval of the university’s in-development plans for a campus in Loudoun County.
The Resources Committee will meet at 8:00 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom Salon A&B on the first floor of the Richmond Marriott. The committee will receive an update on the Governor’s introduced budget amendments for the 2006-08 biennium.
The Outreach Committee will meet at 9:00 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom Salon A&B on the first floor of the Richmond Marriott. The committee will discuss progress towards the February 8, 2007 Outstanding Faculty Awards ceremony and several academic events being planned for the continued commemoration of SCHEV’s 50 th anniversary.
During the regular business meeting, the Council will hear an update on 2007 legislation impacting higher education.
SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
