SCHEV Announces Agenda for January 11 Meeting
—Senator John Chichester and SREB Executive Director Mark Musick
to Provide Update on SREB Activities—

RICHMOND — The State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) will hold a regular business meeting on Tuesday, January 11 from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The meeting will be held in the Council’s Ninth Floor Main Conference Room of the James Monroe Building in Richmond, Virginia.

SCHEV committees will meet prior to the regular business session. The Academic Affairs Committee and the Resources Committee will meet in the James Monroe Building from 8:45 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. The Academic Affairs Committee will meet in the Ninth Floor Main Conference Room. The Resources Committee will meet in Conference Room C on the First Floor. The Outreach Committee will meet in the Ninth Floor Main Conference Room from 11:00 a.m. – 11:45 a.m.

During the Council meeting, Senator John Chichester and Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) Executive Director Mark Musick will provide an update regarding SREB’s recent activities. The Academic Affairs Committee will take action on establishing the Career College Advisory Board (CCAB) and on adoption of goals for the newly formed Learning Technology Advisory Committee (LTAC).

Additional agenda items include:
  • Action on HJ 197: The Council is expected to take action on adoption of a resolution on HJ 197 to establish a four-year public higher education institution in South Central Virginia. In accordance with the directive established by HJ 197, SCHEV will submit its formal report to the General Assembly on January 12.
  • Update on the Governor’s Budget Amendments and 2005 Legislation: The Council will be briefed on the Governor’s budget amendments as they relate to higher education as well as legislation to be considered by the 2005 General Assembly.

SCHEV is the Commonwealth’s coordinating body for Virginia’s system of higher education. The agency provides policy guidance and budget recommendations to the Governor and General Assembly, and is a resource for information on Virginia colleges and universities on higher education issues.
