Virginia Assessment Group (VAG)

The Virginia Assessment Group (VAG) promotes quality higher education through assessment of student learning and practices of institutional effectiveness in postsecondary institutions. VAG serves as a network for communication and collaboration among institutions of higher education, state and federal agencies, and accreditation bodies. VAG offers professional development opportunities and serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas.

VAG membership is open to anyone with an interest in assessment practices within higher education. For more information, contact the President of VAG, Kathryne Drezek McConnell, at kmdrezek@vt.edu.

SCHEV and The Virginia Assessment Group sponsored a conference entitled “A Conversation on What it Means to be an Educated Virginian” on June 13, 2012. Please click here to view the materials and information associated with this conference.

Virginia Public Higher Education Policy on the Assessment of Student Learning

Assessment has been a focus of the State Council since 1986, when SCHEV first began drafting guidelines for the assessment of student achievement. In recent years, the Council has sought to provide concrete, non-anecdotal evidence of student learning. In 2010, the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia approved a new policy on the assessment of student learning by public higher education institutions.
